A dinghy raft up (above) is a great way
of getting to know those fellow cruisers
you’re likely to run into at several anchorages up and down the coast.
BIRDS OF A FEATHER
FLOCK AND PARTY
Joining a boating rally is a safe and easy
way to get started on your first leg north
or south. Each spring, manufacturers
such as Chris-Craft, West Sail, Jeanneau,
J-Boat, and Albin organize a fun two- or
three-day rendezvous for owners at destinations in the Pacific Northwest, where
friendships are made, and plans laid to
cruise north for the summer. The Pacific
Northwest Multihull Association (www.
nwmultihull.org) holds a spring rendezvous.
For wooden boat lovers, there’s the Pacific
Northwest Schooner Rendezvous:
This fall, the CUBAR (Cruise Underway
to Baja Rally) fleet of about 50 powerboats
cruises (November 11-23, 2015) from San
Diego to Marina Costa Baja, La Paz, stopping at Ensenada, Turtle Bay, and other
ports for fuel and parties along Pacific
Baja. www.Cubar.SDYC.org. Also this fall,
about 150 sailboats, and some powerboats,
will become the 23rd annual Baja Ha Ha,
a migration from San Diego to Cabo San
Lucas (October 25 - November 7).
