REPORTS | NEWS FROM THE WORLD OF AMERICAN BOATING Boat U.S.

Robert Ness, a BoatU.S. member from Potterville, Michigan, sent in
this remarkable photo taken on a cruise with his son in July 2014 at
the Benjamin Islands of northern Lake Huron in the Great Lakes. “We
started going to the North Channel in 1982 with the purchase of our
first boat,” he says. “Our three children were preschool and elementary
level.” This year his now grown son was in his own boat with his family.
“We had the ultimate pleasure of watching our young grandchildren
climbing and exploring the same areas our children had.” The photo
was taken using a GoPro camera with a fish-eye lens, mounted on a
radio-controlled quadcopter. “Our anchorage in the South Benjamin
Islands is our favorite spot, and almost always open, as other boaters
do not venture into this area due to the degree of difficulty from underwater structures and rock formations.” Sorry, Robert, but after seeing
this great shot, your best kept secret may not be anymore!
