Greenline 33 Hybrid
One of the fastest-selling boats
in Europe has come to America.
The Greenline 33 Hybrid is a single-diesel-powered cruiser with modern
lines and an efficient hull form
that moves easily through the water
at up to two times hull speed.
Available with an electric motor/
generator in-line with the transmission and a solar panel array on the
cabin top, the hybrid version can
run at four knots on solar power, and up to six knots using the
batteries with a maximum range of around 20 miles on batteries
alone. Kick on the 75- or optional 165-hp diesel and she’ll top
out at 15 knots. Cruising range is 700 nm. Best of all, the system
is simple. There’s a switch labeled “Diesel/Electric.” Select your
power preference at that moment, push the throttle forward, and
go. LOA 33’, beam 11’ 6”, draft 30”. Base price $180,000; with
most options $267,000. www.Greenlinehybrid.com
Callinectes 16 Tender
For those whose hearts pine for the heyday and fine lines
of classics such as old Garwoods and glamorous Rivas, but who
feel the need for modern conveniences and speed, there’s a new
kid in town. The 16-foot Callinectes tender is a combination of
old-meets-new, with more than its fair share of va-va-voom. A
mahogany deck and veneered transom give timeless curves, while
chromed deck jewels are a throwback to another, altogether more
loving era of boatbuilding. But an infused-fiberglass hull, bonded
to the hand-laid wooden deck, and the power of a high-output
low-displacement turbo-charged engine and jet drive mean owners aren’t taking a slow boat to anywhere. An iPod direct stereo is
standard — just in case you thought you were still in the 1950s!
Speeds above 45 mph, thanks to the low-emission 150-hp Weber
MPE 750 turbo engine, makes pulling skiers easy, and a 7” draft
gets the boat into the shallows without worry.
It weighs in at less than 1,500 pounds (wet), is easy to lift
with a davit, and can be stored on deck or in a garage. Its one
drawback is that at $65,000, it ain’t cheap, but then the finer
things in life usually aren’t. If the price tab’s an issue, cut $20,000
by opting for the equally beautiful Callinectes 16 Runabout. You’ll
still be the envy of your fellow boaters. www.cboatworks.com
Beneteau Sense 50
It spun on its axis like a sportfisher, then crabbed sideways
effortlessly while spectators applauded. Not the sort of maneuvers
you’d ordinarily see a 50-foot sailboat making. But the Beneteau
Sense 50 that showed off these tricks at the Annapolis show is
equipped with “Dock & Go,” a combination of an “azimuthing”
pod drive and bow thruster linked with a joystick control. A 75-hp
Yanmar powers the pod, which can rotate 360 degrees to provide
thrust in any direction.
The Sense 50 is part of a new line from Beneteau with an open
interior and distinct areas on the boat for daytime, evening, and
nighttime aboard. The cockpit, with easy access to the water, transitions down three steps to a galley and dinette. LOA 49’, beam
15’ 11”, max draft 6’ 11”. A well-equipped Sense that includes
“Dock & Go” is approximately $550,000. Sense.Beneteau.com
