NEW ELECTRONICS
From The Fort Lauderdale Boat Show
Higher Tech, Lower Costs
Airmar’s new Ultrasonic
WeatherStation PB200 instrument adds
a three-axis electronic compass, three-axis
accelerometer and a yaw rate gyro to its
integral WAAS-capable GPS receiver,
and temperature and barometric
pressure sensors. The improvements
allow the $1,395 PB200 to deliver
accurate apparent and true wind
speed and heading information even
in rolling and pitching
motions of up to 20
degrees. Providing
output data simul-
taneously in NMEA
0183 and NMEA
2000 format, the PB200
will be easy to integrate into
the vessel’s electronic system.

Standard Horizon’s new
GX 1100S full capability Class
D VHF/DSC radio lists at $140.
The radio’s DSC calling menu
includes “Test Call” which, when used in
an area covered by Rescue 21, provides
instant verification of proper
operation of the radio without
a voice call. www.standardho-rizon.com
FLIR’s First Mate, a
new handheld thermal imager,
will appeal to captains of smaller
yachts for “see-in-total-darkness”
capability. Like the M62L, the First
Mate, at $3,000, will deliver a clear
image of a person in the water by sensing
body heat. www.FLIR.com
Raymarine’s new ST70
Plus, 6.5-inch high-resolu-
tion color LCD multifunc-

KVH has made life easier for boat
owners who want to use their satellite TV
host of new marine electronics
debuted at the Fort Lauderdale
Boat Show and, happily for boat
owners, they have three major
pluses — improved performance, lower costs, and easier installations.
Hot items range from Standard Horizon’s
VHF DSC radio featuring “Test Call,” to
KVH’s new onboard television antennae
compatible with a variety of satellite TV
providers so broadcasts come
in even far from the home
dock. Here are some of the
new items for 2010 worth
checking out:
Navionics Mobile 2. 2
navigation and charting
application for the iPhone
and iPod Touch 2nd generation at $9.99 is a bargain for
anyone in North America.
The Marine East Coast selection includes Mobile Marine
nautical charts (Navionics
Gold XL) from Maine to the Florida Keys,
the northern Bahamas, the Hudson River,
and Lake Champlain. The app provides
tides and currents, plus automatic look-up
of marinas, boat-supply stores, repair facilities, boat dealers, and restaurants. The app
geotags photos taken with the iPhone’s
camera. Track data with photos and screen
shots can be e-mailed for viewing on
Google Earth, Google Maps or uploaded
to Facebook. Updates are supplied free
from the i Tunes store. www.navionics.com/

systems when traveling to areas covered
by different TV companies. Install the new
$1,295 Tri-Americas LNB in an M5, M7
or M9 antenna and your system will be
compatible with DirecTV, Dish Network
and Bell ExpressVu in North America and
DirecTV Latin America in the Caribbean,
Central and South America. KVH has also
responded to DirecTV’s recent movement
of High Definition programs from their
Ku band satellites to two Ka band
birds with the introduction
of their new and very
innovative HD7
system. The
HD7’s 26-inch,
61-pound,
dome-enclosed
antenna can
simultaneously
receive sig-
nals from three satellites; two Ka band
HD program streams and one Ku band
signal that includes both programming and
the essential program guide information.
Other multi satellite antennas are typically
too large (50-inch diameter) and too heavy
(207 pounds) for installation on modest
size yachts. www.kvh.com
