NEW BOATS
New Generation
Of Down East
European Elegance
Often, simplicity is more stunning
than a fancied up façade. This is true of
the Rustler 24, which captures the essence
of a daysailer with unbroken lines and
clean, unobstructed teak decks. Lovely
enough to stop passersby at the Annapolis
sailboat show, the Rustler 24 is imported
by Scandinavian Yachts of Newport, Rhode
Island.
A neat feature is the optional side-mounted outboard bracket, on which you
can hang a Torqeedo electric outboard for
nearly silent running when the wind dies.
Inboard diesel power is also available. Base
boat includes teak decks, white hull, main
and jib, headsail roller furling, pop-up
cleats, and a shipping cradle, delivered to
the East Coast for around $68,700. (401)

abre Yachts’ latest sedan, the Sabre 40, marries traditional Down-East styling
with modern building techniques and propulsion. The result is a classic-looking yacht, with modern conveniences such as joystick control and automated trim tabs. Sabre recently changed production to a vacuum-infusion
resin-delivery system for
hull lay-up, which cuts
weight, making the boat
more fuel-efficient. The
Sabre 40 was designed as a pod-drive
boat, with shallow tunnels feeding
water to the Zeus pods powered by
twin Cummins 380-hp electronic diesels.
Taking shelter onboard during the
Nor’easter that marred the Annapolis
powerboat show, the warm glow of the
honey-colored interior chased away
thoughts of the cold day outside. Poking around the engine room, it’s apparent just how
much space pod drives free up compared to traditional inboard installations — enough
for an optional washer/dryer or freezer. The Sabre 40 starts at around $587,000; nicely
equipped, $650,000. (207) 655-3831; www.Sabre Yachts.com
