Storm Clouds-A-Coming: “I think it’s interesting to put your subject in the corner
sometimes. Here was a really nice Florida day but there was a front moving in. I lay
on the ground and shot almost straight up with a Canon EOS at 24mm on a 24-70mm
lens. I’d actually like to try that one again with more light on the tree!”
The Ripple Effect: “This is one way to be abstract in photography. It
was taken in Greece on a Canon 5D in the middle of the day with a
24-70mm lens. It was really calm so I chose a slow shutter speed to
get the water to move slightly. But it’s really all about the light when
it comes to the colors. Don’t just take one shot and keep walking.
With digital cameras you’ve got the chance to experiment. If I’d taken
just one shot at a fractionally faster shutter speed, I wouldn’t have
gotten the shot.”
Frenzied Furling: “Here’s another way of shooting action. This was on a race boat and these guys were working together to trim a sail. It was with a
40mm lens but it’s really a function of the shutter speed. Generally a fast shutter speed enables the subject to be stopped in action but I shot this at
1/15th shutter speed and it gives you a feeling of the speed with which they’re trying to do the job.”
